హిందూ ధర్మంలో విశిష్ట స్థానం కలిగిన గోవును పూజిస్తే అమ్మను, అమ్మవారిని పూజించినట్లేనని శాస్త్ర వచనం. అటువంటిది పరమశివుడికి అత్యంత ఇష్టమైన కపిల గోవును పూజిస్తే ఇంకెంత పుణ్యమో కదా. యాదాద్రి భువనగిరి జిల్లా, చౌటుప్పల్, ద్వాదశ జ్యోతిర్లింగాల సహిత శ్రీ పుణ్యలింగేశ్వరస్వామి క్షేత్రంలో కపిల గోశాల భక్తులను విశేషంగా ఆకట్టుకుంటుంది. అత్యంత అరుదుగా ఉండే కపిల గోశాలను సందర్శించి, తమ చేతులతో స్వయంగా గ్రాసం తినిపించి శ్రీ పుణ్యలింగేశ్వరస్వామి అనుగ్రహం, కపిల గోవుల ఆశీస్సులు పొందుతున్నారు భక్తులు.

गोदान महादान:

हिंदू धर्म में गाय का विशेष और पवित्र स्थान माना गया है। शास्त्रीय मान्यताओं के अनुसार, गाय की पूजा करना माता और देवी की पूजा करने के समान माना जाता है। ऐसे में भगवान शिव को अत्यंत प्रिय मानी जाने वाली कपिला गाय की पूजा करने से और भी अधिक पुण्य प्राप्त होता है, ऐसी भक्तों की आस्था है। यादाद्रि भुवनगिरी जिले के चौटुप्पल में द्वादश ज्योतिर्लिंगों सहित स्थित श्री पुण्यलिंगेश्वर स्वामी मंदिर की कपिला गोशाला भक्तों को विशेष रूप से आकर्षित करती है। अत्यंत दुर्लभ कपिला गायों वाली इस गोशाला में भक्त आकर अपने हाथों से गायों को चारा खिलाते हैं और श्री पुण्यलिंगेश्वर स्वामी की कृपा तथा कपिला गायों का आशीर्वाद प्राप्त करते हैं।

गोदान के फल:

विश्वमाता मानी जाने वाली गोमाता की सेवा करना एक पुण्य कार्य माना जाता है। ऐसी धार्मिक मान्यता है कि गोदान करने से पितृदेवताओं को पुण्यलोक की प्राप्ति होती है। भक्तों की गहरी आस्था है कि गोदान करने से पूर्वजन्म के पाप और दोष दूर होते हैं तथा मृत्यु के बाद सद्गति प्राप्त होती है। इन मान्यताओं का उल्लेख पारंपरिक धार्मिक ग्रंथों में मिलता है।
